Welcome to our Case Study section, this is to help give you an insight of what people who are working for Bestway have to say about their role and what it is like to work for Bestway.
I started my career over 11 years ago after graduating from University, I joined Coscutter (now a part of Bestway Retail) where I started on a temporary contract as Trading assistant in the Trading team where I fell in love with Trading. Over the years I worked my way up to Junior Category Manager, then Category Manager taking on bigger areas of responsibility before heading up the commercials for our Company Owned estate. I then left the business where I worked for Morrisons Wholesale and laterly Spar Scotland as Head of Trading before returning to the new Bestway Retail Group. I originally came back over 2 years ago to support driving the commercials within the larger company owned estate, after supporting the business increasing its sales and profits forward I took on heading up our trading team for Northern Ireland, group direct to store and company owned commercials teams. Most recently this year I have now taken over as Director of Trading for Convenience for Bestway Retail.
Opportunities and support, the business encourages people to be their best and is open to commercially viable opportunities which gives great flexibility and backing to grow your business units as well as your own career. Also makes it a lot more fun having the right balance of challenges and relationships.
Working with suppliers on how we best develop and support independent retailers to deliver the 4 wins; customer, retailer, wholesaler and supplier by driving the right product categories, activations and new lines at competitive pricing whilst ensuring retailers can grow and invest in their businesses by making the right profit.
Power of collaboration, I have always been a big believer in collaborating but in a group across multiple offices and sites throughout the UK having the right relationships, clarity and joint planning is absolutely critical on initiatives being successful or not.
Get stuck in, the more you learn to understand all the different moving parts this gives you a greater understanding of 1. the importance of your part but also 2. how you can improve and get things done more effectively.
